Maybelline Fit me! Foundation vs. NYX Matte Foundation
Chemistry and Saftey Concerns
To start this blog off let's take a look inside of the chemicals that are in the Maybelline Fit me! foundation. Some chemical ingredients that are found in the foundation are cyclohexasiloxane, tocopherol, and isododecane.
First, we have cyclohexasiloxane. Cyclohexasiloxane is a man-made chemical that consists of elements being mixed together with silicone. What cyclohexasiloxane does for this product is that it helps form a protective barrier on the skin and works as a conditioning agent. There aren't many known personal safety concerns for cyclohexasiloxane other than the fact that it can cause mild skin and eye irritation. It has a major environmental concern which is that it can affect aquatic life.
Next, we have tocopherol. Tocopherol is an organic compound that can come from olives, sunflower oil, soybeans, or corn oil. Tocopherol helps protect the skin from UV radiation from the sun. Like cyclohexasiloxane, tocopherol doesn't have any know personal health concerns other than causing a rash or slight irritation. Tocopherol doesn't have any known environmental concerns.
Lastly, we have isododecane. Isododecane is an organic compound with multiple chains of hydrocarbons that are branched together. Isododecane helps the product glide easily on the skin and create an even layer for maximum effectiveness. Isododecane can cause redness, swelling, or itchy hives that may leak fluids. It doesn't have any known environmental concerns.
Experiment and Results
For my experiment, I decided to test multiple things about the foundations that I chose and see how they compare to each other in terms of how matte the end product is, how fast it dries, how much cover it adds, and how smooth it leaves the skin, and the wipe factor.
Procedure
1) Wash and dry face. You want to start off with a clean face because it can alter your results.
2) Apply Maybelline Fit me! Foundation with whatever applicator you use. I used a sponge but the application method doesn't alter the results.
3) Measure how quickly it dries.
4) Take a picture or look in the mirror to see how matte it looks.
5) Record the coverage.
6) Feel how smooth your skin is while the makeup is on.
7) Wipe off the foundation with a makeup remover wipe and see long it takes to get it all off.
8) Repeat steps 1 through 7 with the NYX Matte Foundation
Results
In order to see which foundation is the better foundation, I decided to give each foundation a score out of 10 in each category to see who is better in that category.

As you can see from the table above, Maybelline Fit me! Foundation was the better of the two. These results can be justified because the Fit me! Foundation's main ingredient cyclohexasiloxane is made from silicon which can cause a smooth surface. There are other ingredients in the Maybelline Fit me! Foundation that isn't in the NYX Matte Foundation which is also another reason for why the results turned out the way they did.
In conclusion, I am happy with the way the results turned out from this experiment. Both the Maybelline and NYX foundations are really good foundations with good formulas too, but, the Maybelline foundation pulled through more. My chemical research was quite fun as well. I got to learn more about new chemicals and what they did. The only downside to the research was finding out what cyclosiloxane could do to aquatic life. I would suggest to the creators of the Maybelline foundation to maybe use a more organic and nature loving/neutral conditioning agent as well as a protective barrier on the skin agent.
