What Is So Special About Selsun Blue?

Selsun Blue is a medicated shampoo with scalp healing, anti-itch and dandruff control properties. You might wonder what's so good about that? What does that mean for me? Well, this certain shampoo is perfect for people with itchy scalp, or dandruff problems, but this product can be used by anyone.
The experiment behind this product is that we are aiming to see if Selsun blue lives up to what it says it does for the scalp and prevent itchiness.

Chemicals in Product
Menthol
With the chemical formula C10H20O, menthol is an alcohol made from mint oils. Menthol is commonly used for flavoring, smell, or anesthetic and healing properties. It also acts as an anti-irritant to the skin.
Selenium Sulfide
The main function of Selenium Sulfide is it acts as an anti-fungal agent, meaning it prevents fungus, in this case on the scalp. Selenium sulfide is commonly used in shampoos that help with dandruff control. Its chemical formula is SSe.
Salicylic Acid
Salicylic Acid’s chemical formula is C7H603 or HOC6H4COOH. Salicylic Acid is extracted from the bark of white willows and wintergreen leaves. The main function of this chemical is to act as an anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial agent. If ingested in large amounts it could be toxic, but harmless in small amounts.
Personal And Environmental Safety Issues
There were no reported environmental or personal safety issues about Selsun Blue.
Experiment/Results
Instead of going the traditional route, our experiment was to assess how the shampoo reacts with hair and the scalp. What we did was wash my hair with Selsun blue and conditioner, then use another shampoo a few days later with the same conditioner (White Rain: Apple Blossom Moisturizing Conditioner). After each trail we were to check hair texture and scalp irritation. We concluded that the trail that involved the Selsun Blue shampoo strips the natural oils from your hair and makes it very dry, but it did prevent the itchy scalp. After that trial my hair got a little brittle and dry, I had put some moisture in my hair. For the trial that included the other shampoo (Suave: Ocean Breeze), we concluded that this trail kept more moisture and water in my hair. The shampoo kind of made it so my hair felt healthier and colorful. Even though everyone has a different hair texture, we concluded that the Selsun blue is better used for scalp irritation but is vulnerable to provide the hair with the needed moisture.
Proposed Improvements
The one most important improvement the company could make to better Selsun Blue, is to make it where the shampoo doesn’t strip the natural oils from the hair and to not leave it dry, and brittle. Instead they could make it to where the shampoo helps moisturize and prevent itchy scalp.
