Zaire's Results
The results I got were less than I expected. The left side, without toothpaste, showed little growth of bacteria and the right side, with the toothpaste, showed nothing at all. The right side shows what Ultrabrite can really do, which is fight against bacteria. This is good, but that doesn't instantly make Ultrabrite the best toothpaste because there are other toothpastes that can do more than just fight bacteria.
Tyesha's Results
My toothpaste of choice was Crest 3D White Luxe. On the bottle itself it claims to 1) fight cavities, 2) fight tartar, and 3) refreshes the mouth. I was focused on how well it fought off bacteria. I have multiple pictures over the course of the bacteria's growth.
This is day 3 of the experiment and the first day of noticeable growth. It's hard to see in the photo, however. I didn't document days 1 and 2 because there was no growth.
This is day 6 of the bacteria and the 4th day of growth. There's a considerable difference between day 3 and 6. There's a cloudy patch on the agar which is the bacteria. Now that the growth has more of a presence, it's clear to see the side without toothpaste and how drastic the difference is to the side with it. On the top half there's no bacteria at all. I couldn't document days 4 and 5 because it was the weekend.
This is day 7/ 5th day of growth. There isn't much of a difference from the previous day, but the patch next to the main one grew a bit. There's still no bacteria on the top half.
This, however, is day 9 of the experiment. The previous day the integrity of the agar was compromised, partially turning to liquid, which I proceeded to pick up and spill on the floor. However, there's a new patch growing on the agar. It's not on the side of the bacteria growth, which is now hanging on the side of the petri dish, though. Mr. Paul suspects it may be mold, but I'm confused about its placement, considering it's on the clean side of the agar.
This is where my documentation ends. I have no more pictures of my specimen. This was a fruitful venture into how well bacteria is fought by Crest and in my opinion, it passes.
