Testable Question: Does Shea Moisture Jamaican black castor oil shampoo clean dirt and oil out of hair better than Pure Tea shampoo?

     
Chemistry research
During my experiment I did some research on some of the chemicals in the Shea Moisture shampoo. The first chemical I researched was decyl glucoside the chemical formula for this chemical is C16H32O6. This chemical comes from coconuts or corn and is mainly plant derived. This chemical claims to clean and be gentle on all types of hair. Cosmetic companies use this because it’s biodegradable meaning it can be decomposed by any bacteria or living organism. The second chemical I researched was sodium lauroyl lactylate the chemical formula for this is C18H31NaO6. This chemical is derived from salt or milk and coconut oil. Sodium lauroyl lactylate claims to easily penetrate skin to moisturize. The last chemical I researched was glycerin the chemical formula for glycerin is C3H8O3. This chemical is derived from pig or bovine skin. Glycerin claims to prevent dry, rough,scaly, and itchy skin.
Personal and environmental safety
During my research I looked up the health and environmental concerns of the chemicals I researched. Not to my surprise there was little to no concerns with any of the chemicals that are used in my shampoo.
Procedure
  1. Let oil and dirt build up in hair for five days.
  2. Next take a palm full of Shea moisture shampoo and thoroughly wash scalp and individual locs.
  3. Examine how much dirt is left in the sink water.
  4. Wait another five days and repeat steps 1-3 with the pure tea shampoo.
  5. Wait another five days and repeat steps 1-3 with just water.
Results

Shea Moisture shampoo
Pure Tea shampoo
Observations
Cleaned the majority of dirt and oil out of my hair.
Left my hair moisturized without using any oil.
Cleaned the same amount of dirt and oil as the Shea moisture shampoo.
Left my hair a little dry had to use oil to moisturize.
Proposed improvement
I believe that the company who make Shea Moisture shampoo has no further improvements they need to make because the shampoo did exactly what it said it would and it isn’t harmful.

Maybelline Fit me! Foundation vs. NYX Matte Foundation

Starting out with this project I didn't really know what to do. I was going between hair products or skin care products. Ultimately, I decided to do an experiment about foundations because my mother and I use two different foundations and come out with different outcomes.
