Vaseline lotion vs Johnson & Johnson


Chemical Research:
Three chemical substances included in the brand Vaseline lotion is Glycerin, Stearic acid, and Isopropyl Myristate. Glycerine is a colorless and odorless liquid that comes from the planet sources, for this product Glycerin attracts water to itself which helps the product leave your skin overall moisturizing and soft. Stearic acid is a mixture fatty acid that helps cosmetic products with the cleansing factor by providing a role of thickener and hardener to help the product retain its shape. Isopropyl Myristate is a synthetic oil composed of Isopropyl alcohol and myristic acid. In cosmetic products Isopropyl Myristate is used because of its ability to reduce the greasy feel of all the oily products and its being easily absorbed by the skin.

Personal and Environmental safety:
Glycerin could cause excessive bowel activity, cramping, rectal irritation, and cramping rectal pain. Stearic acid is actually good for cosmetic products when its concentration is below limits that have been shown to cause irritation. Isopropyl Myristate can cause irritation to the human skin but is ultimately a pretty safe product.



Procedure:
  • Get a Camera
  • Get Bottle of vaseline lotion
  • Get Bottle of Johnson & Johnson
  • A person to conduct the experiment on
  • Rub Vaseline lotion in one arm
  • Rub Johnson and Johnson on the other
  • Record results after a day
  • Record in Data Chart
  • Use Pencil or Pen


Results:
After an extensive trial that lasted 24 hours, a conclusion was ultimately drawn. The Vaseline lotion was ultimately the lotion that lasted longer and made the skin higher in terms of moisturization. This is because the product glycerin attracts water and leaves the skin feeling moist and smooth. However in Johnson and Johnson , they have used chemicals such as formaldehyde which actually is used as an adhesive, so in most cases when coming in contact with sweat, they repel each other making it dry faster.

Proposal:  A potential proposal that can be improvised is to let the companies know that products that help enhance skin and get rid of pimples and acne should be accounted for. If this is taking into consideration, then other people will want to buy your product and more consumers would come about.

Maybelline Fit me! Foundation vs. NYX Matte Foundation

Starting out with this project I didn't really know what to do. I was going between hair products or skin care products. Ultimately, I decided to do an experiment about foundations because my mother and I use two different foundations and come out with different outcomes.
